My 100th Post! Bachman's Summer Idea Home Highlights 2011

Welcome to the Bachman's Idea Home for Summer 2011,
the original home of the Bachman's Family adjacent to the flagship store
on 67th and Lyndale in Richfield, Minnesota.  $5.00 to enjoy.
Open through June 19th, 2011.

Love the porch room!  The name of the paint trim is Bunny Cake by Hirshfield's.
Above the fireplace, they used placemats above the fireplace, and the woodshims mirror is fun, too.
Love the yardstick shelves, and the painted art on vintage pans.
Two stacked benches = bookshelf

Living Room-Shutter Collage on Wall

Love the dining room, especially the side table holding the wine bottles,
flowers on the wall, and rust orange "framing" the collection.

On the dining room table, the napkin rings are bracelets re-purposed.

Strawberry kitchen with vintage spools used for knobs on cupboards.

Fence/gate holding the pots and pans, vintage shopping cart for extra storage.

Little girl's room holds butterflies, and a little fence for the valance.

Master Bedroom

Love this!

Media Room

Skateboard Themed Boy's Room

Garage Birthday Party!
Paper plates on right wall nailed/pinned on for color,
rug on floor, and trees fill the space.

Party table includes candy trees, utensils, drinks, orange vases w/flowers.

In the shed, held a reading and writing nook.

Love the hats over the curtains, the word poem on the plates, the trunk under the desk + birdcage.

Backyard cuteness!

Terra Cotta saucers are used as chargers-table is a vintage bed

Hope you enjoyed!

Stencils, and my $2.00 Tray!

Stencils have really changed in the last 20 years-this is an affordable way to add some texture, style + design into your decor:

But...I searched some images on the internet, and found a pattern online for free!  and, it is my favorite shape, too.  I'm made my own stencil by printing the template, tracing it with a sharpie onto a plastic, sheer folder, and cutting it out carefully.

Inspiration Pics for my home

One of the decorating tips is to hold onto your inspiration pics, keep a list of your likes, and keep a wish list.

Black + White
Aquas + Pinks
Cherry Blossoms
Silver Accents
Function Storage

...From Better Homes and Gardens...
Love ribbons on edges of curtains(made some myself, IKEAE linen curtains + black satin ribbon), damask pillows, folding screen for privacy, and items on coffee table.

...From Pottery Barn...
Love black and white striped pillows, silver lamps (scored at Marshal's) + cabinet.

...From Ana's Knock Off Wood...
Love the wall color, mix + match with the wood with black and white, damask chairs, linen curtains...and you can make the table + bench! For my home, I feel like I need a drop leaf for space.

Love the white couch + slipcover concept, the chaise shape to take advantage of a corner, + the 2 silver lamps.

Wilde Roast Cafe

The Wilde Roast Cafe:

On Saturday, I had a great girl's day which started with gluten free corn cakes (pancakes) with fresh orange juices + maple syrup. The last time I had pancakes was in 2007 on Huntington Beach.

Then, we went to Aveda Institute for pedicures and relaxing, in a historic Masonic Lodge. Perfect day, perfect friends!

Admiring Fabric, Eye Candy

This year, I am loving all the fun patterns appearing on fabrics and in fashion. Thinking some of these would make fun shower curtains, lamp shades, chair covers + pillows!

For now, I'm just dreaming and hoping to inspire you from JoAnn's Online Fabric.

...Love aqua, teal + black + white...

Gluten Free/Vegan Cupcakes, from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World

Gluten Free/Vegan Cupcake Ingredients, from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World

Along with crafts, family and being a DIY-er, I also happen to be gluten-free and vegan. It is my 1 year anniversary in May 2011, and I have found some great recipes along the way.

Photo is from my sorority's 7th Annual Pink Carnation Tea Party, and I baked GF Bread from a mix for 2 kinds of sandwiches (1 with hummus, 1 with Nutella + Strawberries) and my Chocolate Mint Cupcakes. This year, we raised $600.00 for Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN through raffle, and I donated a 12x12 scrapbook.

I love these cupcakes! Very rich, dense and heavenly.

1 cup soy milk or almond milk
1/3 cup canola oil
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract (or if you want to change the flavor, use 2 tsp mint or whatever flavor you want)
1/4 tsp almond
1/4 cup tapioca flour
2 tsp flaxseed
1/3 cup unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup white rice flour
1/2 cup quinoa flou
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt

1. Preheat oven to 350

2. Mix wet ingredients, then add tapioca flour and flax seed for 1 minute of mixing until tapioca is dissolved.

3. Mix remainder of dry ingredients for 2 minutes. Don't have to worry about over mixing because there is no gluten :)4. Fill cupcakes 3/4 full--will not rise as much as regular cupcakes.

5. Bake 20-23 minutes, until toothpick comes out of center clean.

Chocolate Ganache

4 oz chocolate chip
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/3 cup soy/rice/almond milk

Bring to a boil, stir. Remove from heat, continue to stir. Drizzle it on :)

(It can also be rolled in cocoa powder for truffles. Also tastes yummy on its own).

Spring-pisration 2011

Dreaming of spring in Minnesota...and going outside on my porch.

Pretty Porch...wish it was mine!

Spring Inspiration from Martha Stewart

Numbered Pots...yesterday was April 16th, and we had snow. I used my Cricut, some vinyl and my Alphalicious Cartridge to make some numbers to cute up my pots.

Stenciling on Burlap...not sure what this will turn into yet!

My sisters and I on my Christmas porch a couple years back...

...I have a good foundation to build on...I also have a bunch of mason jar lanterns that I would like to hang, possibly from a suspended ladder over the table.

Scrapbook Challenge #14

Scrapbook Challenge #14-Play Around with Circles

My favorite book, 52 More Scrapbook Challenges by Elizabeth Kartchner, is one of my faves because each challenge is like a fun homework assignment to push me creatively. It is my goal to try all 52...and it is super fun :)
